DYSTOPIAS in FASERIP
"No information is deliberately gathered on website visitors by the website owner"Dystopia" means an imaginary state, sometimes a future period, where life is almost unbearable and intolerable. This awful condition of life can come from an oppressive government, the abandonment of Reason and common sense, control or subversion by a sinister conspiracy, or by a general abandonment of morality and decency. These are just examples, there are many other types of dystopia. The "near future" of a Cyberpunk world is almost always a dystopia, where life is very cheap. So too the worlds where film noir in all its varieties take place.
FASERIP has written into its core the concept of Karma. Heroes earn Karma by being good and lose it by being bad. They lose ALL Karma by taking a life or even being responsible for the loss of a life.
In a Dystopia FASERIP game killing other characters or at the very least treating them violently and harshly is part of the normal way the game setting works. This will mean that almost all of the players' characters will have little or no Karma. This in turn means that rolls and effects will be much harder to actually make succeed. However this higher chance of failure is part of the gritty nature of such a setting.
A Dystopias almost always have one or more classes of person against whom everyone is expected to show extreme prejudice. This is part of the general nastiness of the setting. The victims of discrimination could be mutants, androids (humanoid robots), aliens, the poor, foreigners, an enemy country with whom the nation where play takes place is at war, and so on. This prejudice will be used by the government or sinister controllers to justify a whole range of oppression and invasion of privacy.
One extremely entertaining sort of Dystopia for FASERIP is where superheroes are the hated type of character. This could be due to a past false flag event, a real event where superheroes unwillingly caused a disaster, or because the government has been taken over by supervillains! The superhero characters will then form the rebel alliance, the resistance or the last hope to restore some better kind of life.
